Celebrating the life of
Mary Teresa Lyons Murphy
Passed away on November 27, 2013
Mary Teresa Lyons Murphy
SAVANNAH - Mary Teresa Lyons Murphy passed away peacefully in her sleep at Savannah Hospice House on November 27, 2013.
Mary is survived by her daughter Mary Frances. Her parents, Francis and Grace Lyons, her husband, Jeremiah, her brothers, Francis and Daniel, and her "second parents, "Aunt Kat and Uncle Clyde" preceded Mary in death.
Mary was born and raised in New York City. After graduating from the School of the Holy Child, Mary continued her studies at the prestigious Katherine Gibbs School. These strong foundations would later help Mary secure her dream job as secretary/assistant to the Chairman of the Board of General Motors Corporation.
Jerry's career with General Motors would ultimately land them in Atlanta where Mary fell in love with the South and the South with them. It was most fitting that they would make their home in retirement at the Landings, which they loved.
Mary was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, Mother and friend and a faithful member of the Roman Catholic Church. Mary could light up a room with her smile! She enjoyed family, friends, music and reading. Her sweet spirit, intelligence, strength, tenderness, love, fortitude, compassion, tenacity and beauty, both, inside and out, made her a standout wherever she was!
The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29 at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel, 7200 Hodgson Memorial Drive, Savannah, GA 31406. A Rosary Service will be held at 6:00 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, at St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitfield Avenue Savannah, Georgia
Interment will follow at The Catholic Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 8412 Whitfield Avenue., Savannah, GA 31406 or Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

Mary Murphy was a much beloved member of our book club at the Landings. I always enjoyed her sense of humor and fun, her insightful views on life, and her interesting choices of book titles and topics for us to read. Dear Mary, you will be greatly missed by us all!
- Liz Ward, Savannah, GA
Being a member of our GM Club on the Island, we got to know both Mary and Jerry and really enjoyed their company. Mary could tell the 'best' stories about the GM Execs in N.Y. She was a classy Lady and will be missed. Matt and Terry Murphy
